But of course Walachia does not only consist of the Romanian capital. All over the area you can find witnesses of history, such as forts, castles and monasteries. Even in the area of Bucharest there are some very interesting ones. For sure the old capital Targoviste and the ancient Curtea de Arges are worth a visit as well. Constructed upon the old foundation wall of a monastery, the cathedral of Curtea d Arges is one of the most famous buildings all over Romania. Similar to a big Mausoleum it was also used as a graveyard for the Romanian royal family.

As everywhere in Romania hospitality is something very important to the people in Walachia. Especially in the rural areas everybody who passes by is a welcome guest. It is easy to get in contact with the local population, who like to invite people for a hard liqueur and tell them about their everyday lives. This and many other things design a different and more colourful image of Walachia than one would spontaneously connect with the term.
