Useful information for your trip

Romania, as a travelling country, is not very different from western European countries like Italy, France, or Spain. Especially in the rural areas as well as small and medium cities there's not much criminality.

In bigger cities, especially in Bucharest you should pay a lot of attention to your backpack and your purse. We would recommend you to keep your car in a supervised parking lot.

What is necessary for my entry to Romania?

Since the 1st January 2007 Romania is a member of the EU. For three years now EU-citizens haven't had to obtain a visa. They only need a passport or an identity card which will still be valid for 3 month at the date of their entry. Children only need to have an identity card with a picture or an entry in the families' passport.

When you enter Romania with your own car, you have to possess a green assurance- card besides of the car documents and your driver's license.

Medical care

Romanians medical care is warranted and reliable. In every part of the country it's rather easy to reach a hospital. It might depend on the region but generally they are all well- equipped. Regular and ordinary medicine is available in the pharmacies. If you need special pharmaceutics you should rather bring them.

money

You can change money in the banks and in the exchange office at the border. Don't let strangers on the street change your money!

In order to reduce the amount of millionaires a little bit, 4 ceros where taken off the currency. If you had 1 million Lei 2 years ago, now you only have 100 Lei.

Now the currency is called RON and usually has the value: 1Euro- 3.5 RON / 1 US$- 2.6 RON

At the moment you can also pay with your old bills. That can a little confusing sometimes, that's why it's the best to keep in mind the colours of the different bills, because they're still the same.

Arrival

Therefore you have many possibilities:

It's very easy and comfortable to travel by train. From Prague or Budapest you can pass through until Bucharest.

One way to take a cheap flight is to go from Berlin Schönefeld to Budapest with easy jet and then to Târgu Mure? by Wizz Air.

You can even take a bus to Romania from many big German cities.

If you have your own car it's the best to go to Budapest first. The direction of you further trip can be decided at the place you're heading for.
